Love this song! Written in 2001 as an SCMTA/MTNA commission, it features Maya Angelou's poem of the same name and some rockin' performing from the members of the ensemble. There's all sorts of neat stuff going on in this piece: allusions to blues and rock, playing inside the piano, muting the piano with erasers, whispering from the insrumentalists, and a flat-out quote of a hard-rock chord progression (I just can't figure out from what song--there are so many: maybe it's U2's Desire; maybe it's Tom Petty's You Wreck Me). At any rate, this is one solid-grooving piece of Jesus-rock. Sooo good.
